In an era where borders blend into mere formalities for the digital workforce, Japan has made a significant stride to allure nomadic professionals with the Japan Digital Nomad Visa. Announced by the country’s Immigration Services Agency (ISA) in February, the new visa will be available later this year.

An Overview of the Japan Digital Nomad Visa

What is the Japan Digital Nomad Visa?

The Japan Digital Nomad Visa allows foreign professionals who work remotely via the internet, otherwise known as digital nomads, to work while staying in Japan for six months without being employed in the country. “Spouses and children will also be allowed to stay in Japan,” according to Japan Times. This groundbreaking program casts a new light on Japan’s traditionally rigid visa policies, and opens up the country to an influx of tourism.
