UK Extends eVisa Grace Period Until June 2025
The UK government has extended the grace period for expired Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and Biometric Residence Cards (EUSS BRCs) as it transitions to the eVisa system.
Key Details:
- Previous Deadline: Expired BRPs and EUSS BRCs were originally valid until March 31, 2025.
- New Grace Period: These documents will now remain valid until June 1, 2025 for travel and proof of status.
- Post-Grace Period: From June 2, 2025, expired BRPs and BRCs will no longer be accepted, and holders must use eVisas.
This extension allows more time for affected individuals to complete the transition to eVisas.

UK Introduces Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
The UK will implement the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, requiring travelers from visa-exempt countries to obtain pre-travel authorisation for short visits of up to six months.
Key Details:
- Who Needs an ETA:
- From 8 January 2025, travelers from 48 visa-exempt countries (e.g., the US, Canada, Australia).
- From 2 April 2025, EU citizens will also need an ETA.
- UK residents and those requiring a visa are exempt.
- Cost and Process:
- Application fee: £10 (~US$12.50).
- Applications can be made via the UK government website or official app.
- Approval typically takes up to three days, with faster processing through the app.
- Validity:
- Valid for two years and multiple entries but linked to the passport used for the application.
- Special Notes:
- Required even for transits through the UK.
- Applies to tourism, business, short-term study, and other eligible activities.
