Stricter Police Clearance Certificate Rules for Indian Applicants
Police clearance requirements are tightening for Indian nationals applying for New Zealand visas from within India.
Key Details:
- Indian applicants must supply police clearance certificates issued only by a Regional Passport Office of the Ministry of External Affairs.
- Certificates from local police stations or other non-authorised offices will not be accepted.
- This change may lengthen document processing times, so applicants should prepare in advance.

New Zealand to Recognise NOL Occupations Under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV)
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has announced that occupations listed on the National Occupation List (NOL) will be formally recognised in the AEWV scheme from November 2025, easing the hiring process for employers and skilled migrants.
Key Updates:
- NOL recognition: From 7 November 2025, occupations on the National Occupation List (NOL) will be recognised in the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme.
- Job check streamlining: Employers offering roles listed on the NOL will benefit from a simplified job check process, including reduced advertising requirements.
- Occupation examples: NOL-listed occupations include certain roles in construction, infrastructure, and seasonal industries that are identified as nationally important.
- Temporary policy only: This is a temporary measure and will be reviewed in 2026 as part of a broader immigration policy update.
- Visa eligibility unchanged: Applicants must still meet AEWV requirements, including a job offer from an accredited employer and relevant skills or qualifications.

Business Investor Visa to Replace Entrepreneur Work Visa
New Zealand is updating its business immigration framework by closing the Entrepreneur Work Visa and launching the Business Investor Visa.
Key Details:
- The Entrepreneur Work Visa is now closed to new applications.
- The Business Investor Visa opens for applications in November 2025.
- Applicants may invest either NZD 1 million (standard pathway) or NZD 2 million (fast-track to residence) in an eligible New Zealand business.
- Eligible investment can be made by purchasing a business outright or securing at least 25% ownership.
- Business Investor Visa is valid for up to 4 years and costs NZD 12,380 (including fees and levy).
- Successful applicants may include their partner and dependent children.
- Excluded business types include franchises, gambling, drop-shipping, and those tied to immigration advisers or tobacco products.
- Applicants must meet requirements for investment, settlement funds, age (under 55), English language proficiency, health, character, and relevant business experience.
- Applications for Entrepreneur Work Visas submitted before closure will be processed under prior rules. Entrepreneur Resident Visa and renewals remain available for current holders to maintain their pathway to residence.
- More guidance on the Business Investor Visa will be published in October 2025.

National Occupation List Updates
INZ will expand the National Occupation List (NOL) used in the AEWV pathway, affecting role eligibility for skilled migrants.
Key Details:
- Newly added roles on the NOL will become eligible for AEWV applications.
- Employers recruiting for these roles must refer to the updated occupation list.
- Higher-skilled roles added may offer new pathways for international candidates.
- Employers must follow AEWV requirements for all NOL-listed roles.

New Zealand Eases Travel for Chinese Tourists
New Zealand will implement two new travel measures to facilitate entry for tourists from China.
Key Details:
- Applies to holders of Chinese passports either travelling from Australia on a valid Australian visa or transiting via Auckland Airport on any route.
- Eligible Chinese nationals may visit for up to 3 months using a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) instead of applying for a traditional Visitor Visa.
- The N4 old group visa system remains but is separate and not tied to the new benefits.
- This initiative is part of the China–New Zealand Joint Tourism Year 2025, aiming to boost tourism and bilateral ties.

New Zealand to Relax Work Rights for Student Visa Holders
New Zealand will expand part-time work rights for international student visa holders as part of the International Education Going for Growth Plan.
Key Details:
- Students can now work up to 25 hours per week during term time, up from the previous 20-hour limit.
- Work rights extended to all tertiary-level students in approved Study Abroad or exchange programmes, including one-semester courses; also applies to secondary students in Years 12–13 (with parental/school permission) regardless of their study field or Green List relevance .
- The change aims to attract more international students in sectors facing skills shortages.

Job Check Form Redesign for Accredited Employer Work Visa
Immigration New Zealand is launching a redesigned online Job Check form for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme, aimed at making applications faster and more consistent.
Key Details:
- The new form introduces clearer instructions and automated checks to simplify submissions.
- Employers must now provide, upfront:
- The reason for the vacancy
- Organisation size
- Number of New Zealand staff currently employed
- Draft applications made in the old system must be submitted by 28 September 2025.
- Applications left in draft after this date will need to be re-entered in the new system.
- The new process is designed to reduce delays and support quicker, more informed decisions

New Zealand Updates Active Investor Plus Visa with Growth and Balanced Categories
New Zealand has revised the Active Investor Plus Visa to attract high-value investors with more flexible options.
Key Details:
New Categories:
- Growth: NZD $5M for 3 years in higher-risk investments (e.g., managed funds, direct business investment).
- Balanced: NZD $10M for 5 years in lower-risk investments (e.g., bonds, property).
Additional Changes:
- Minimum investment cut from NZD $15M to NZD $5–10M.
- Broader investment scope for Balanced investors.
- English language requirement removed.
- Reduced presence in New Zealand for active investors.
- Transition: Investor 1 and 2 visas closed; existing applications continue.

New Zealand Expands List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment
Immigration New Zealand has updated its List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment (LQEA), which streamlines visa applications (Skilled Migrant, Green List and Accredited Employer Work Visas) by recognising overseas qualifications without a formal International Qualification Assessment (IQA).
Key Details:
- New additions: qualifications from France, Germany, India, Italy, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sweden, and Switzerland are now auto-exempt.
- Existing entries for Australia, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa, the UK and the USA have been updated to improve clarity and consistency.
- The updated LQEA takes effect on 23 June 2025 and applies to all new relevant visa applications lodged from that date.

New Zealand Updates Median Wage Requirements and Interim Visa Work Rights
The New Zealand government is implementing higher wage thresholds for migrants supporting family members and new work rights for interim visa holders.
Key Details:
- Increased Wage Thresholds for Sponsors:
- Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) holders must now earn NZ$26.85 per hour to support a partner.
- Sponsors under the Parent Category Visa must earn NZ$33.56 per hour.
- Expanded Interim Visa Work Rights (Effective April 2025):
- AEWV applicants can work while waiting for approval if they held a work visa or a student visa that allowed work.
- Time spent on an interim visa that permits work will count toward continuous stay under AEWV.
These changes aim to ensure financial stability for sponsored family members and provide greater flexibility for migrant workers.

New Zealand Allows Remote Work for Digital Nomads on Visitor Visas
New Zealand has relaxed visa conditions to allow remote work for overseas employers while visiting the country.
Key Updates:
- Who is Eligible: Holders of visitor visas and New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) visas.
- Permitted Activities: Remote work for an overseas employer or client is now allowed.
- Restrictions: Visitors cannot work for a New Zealand employer, provide goods or services to local businesses, or perform on-site work in the country.
