Effective January 2025
New Work Permit Confirmation Step for Employers in Italy
The Italian government has introduced an additional confirmation step for employers seeking to hire EU Blue Card holders or quota-subject work permit applicants, effective 11 January 2025.
Key Details:
- Once a work permit is approved, the Visa Information System will notify the Immigration Office.
- The Immigration Office will then send a certified email to the employer, requesting confirmation of their intent to hire the foreign worker.
- Employers must confirm their interest within seven calendar days via certified email. If no confirmation is provided, the work permit application will be automatically rejected.
Purpose: This step is part of a digitisation initiative aimed at preventing instances where work permits are granted without genuine employer interest in hiring the applicant.
Impact: The new requirement should not increase processing times unless the employer fails to complete the confirmation step.
